MEET THE MOORES

Hi there! We are Matthew and Katie Moore. We married back in 2007 and now have two beautiful, wonderful children, Clementine and Wolfgang. Katie and I feel so fortunate to get to do what we do. When we first married we never could have dreamed where our road together would lead… Back then, I was a shift manager at Starbucks, still switching majors, and just scratching my head trying to figure out what in the world I wanted to do with my life. Meanwhile, Katie was in her first year of doing hair. But it was through marriage (and lots of hard work) that we began to discover that who we are, what we could be, and what we could do as individuals was immeasurably enhanced, magnified, and intensified when we worked together. So once things started clicking and our future began to come into focus (read: I got my crap figured out), it was only a matter of time before we would learn to apply this same principle towards business.

I’m the lead photographer, and Katie is the lead stylist and assistant photographer. For over ten years now, we’ve been able to travel, make wonderful friends, make people look their absolute best, preserve memories, and make art.

Matthew

Trend Pioneer, Detester of Mosquitos

To learn about me, I need to set the photographer aspect aside, and just tell you about some of the things I love and enjoy most. After all, “Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” So, here are a few of my treasures.

Mostly I love my wife, and I love my babies and look forward to spending all the time I possibly can with them! Katie seriously gets prettier every year, and, dang (every old woman in America was right), those kids are growing fast! I wish I could slow it down somehow, but it’s like trying to cup water in the palm of your hands!

I tend to love and gravitate towards fairly simplistic things. I love fire pits, beer and cider, barbecuing (I kind of suck at it though), making super cool, hand-dipped beeswax taper candles, and roasting coffee beans. I attempt mediocre impersonations of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, and, besides those two, my favorite musicians are Van Morrison, Billy Joel, Doc Watson, Neil Young, and The Smashing Pumpkins. I’ll have to stop there since that list could go on for awhile!… I also listen to a lot of Celtic music, which frightens our New Jersey friends. Katie’s and my “couple’s song” is Beirut's “Postcards from Italy,” which brings back very fond memories of our honeymoon in Rome. I love collecting vinyl records (so hipster, right?)… I love fall weather, the smell of pumpkin and pine, John Muir, hammocks, hiking, and my heart is constantly yearning for the mountains. My favorite movie is It’s a Wonderful Life, and I cry at the end (understatement) every time I watch it. This fact is kind of -bizarre, but, for some reason (and Katie gets annoyed) I always think I’m somehow responsible for starting any new fashion trends or any new slang terms on the market, which makes no sense considering I don’t care about fashion for myself at all, and avoid trendy words!

While I’m at it, here are a few disinterests. I dislike hot weather, traffic, big crowds, Dave Matthews, and, most of all, mosquitos.

katie

Creative Evil Genius + World’s Greatest (non-evil) Mom

Day in and day out, I am awestruck watching Katie as a wife and mother, and I couldn’t imagine having anyone else by my side to navigate through this life. So, without further ado, and now that that’s been said, let’s get to the fun/weird stuff about “Quirky Katie.”

She often falls asleep at night looking at Pinterest (or whatever the latest kick is) on her phone… She’ll have been in a dead sleep for two hours, and, not kidding, she’ll still be holding her phone up in the air, and her thumb will still be scrolling down the page. I swear to it! On one hand, it’s kind of cute… but, then again, it’s also kind of creepy.

A few other characteristics that make Katie, well, Katie. She’s one of seven kids, the youngest of five sisters, and the girls call themselves the “Buffalo Girls.” They are led by their mother (who looks like she’s still in her 30’s), who’s considered the Chief Buffalo and they live by slogans such as “Buffalo Girls are tough as nails.” This group is comprised of some VERY strong personalities, but, of all of the strong personalities and strong opinions that run rampant amongst the female side of her family, I’ll just say that Katie holds her own.

When we travel to a new and beautiful place, it will take all of ten seconds before Katie gets really chatty and starts casting THE vision for what our lives would look like if we lived there. If we get a wedding inquiry from somewhere beautiful, like near the Mediterranean Sea for example, she’ll have the whole trip planned, before I’ve even replied to the inquiry or know if the numbers will work! But, that’s Katie. She’s a dreamer, she’s a doer, she’s fun, smart, beautiful, she’s hilarious, she’s a ride and the perfect counterpart for me!

She’s an artistic genius and can figure out how to do just about anything by looking at it. She is insanely productive, too. I.e.-, if we decided to clean out the garage- what would take me four days to complete, she could do in four hours- Although, you have to watch her closely with that sort of thing. One time after we married, she threw away two of my paychecks (when I worked at Starbucks) and our marriage license without even realizing it. Fortunately we have similar music tastes. She grew up listening to tons of classic rock and has been on a Cat Stevens kick for a year now. Her favorite movie is Royal Tenenbaums; she flip flops between having blond hair and red hair; and she eats ice cream with a baby spoon.

clementine

Aspiring Fashion Consultant, Decorator, Photographer, DJ

At five years old Clementine is the clone of her mother (although a tad absent minded like her father). She’s strong-willed and insanely opinionated about EVERYTHING, especially her outfits… Seriously, when she was 20 months old, I dressed her for school one day and afterwards, she saw herself in the mirror, clumsily walked into her bedroom and proceeded to point out alternate outfits (… and I’ve trusted her opinion ever since)! She’s kind and thoughtful, extremely sentimental, and requests for us to sing “You Can Close Your Eyes” by James Taylor every night before bed. She loves art projects, LOL dolls, rearranging rooms or setting up for “fancy dinner parties” with Katie, bossing people while taking pictures on her little compact camera (I give it about two years before she’ll be assisting us full time). She loves choral music and requests George Winston on rainy days. Her current favorite song is “Uptown Girl” (which she pronounces “Upton Girls”), and you will frequently hear her humming “Heart of Gold” or Elliott Smith’s “Fond Farewell.”  She’s also just discovered boys (I thought I had a few more years before I had to deal with these sorts of heart palpitations) and keeps making-out with pillows, pretending it’s a certain boy at school. On another note, I will point out that she’s already paying major dividends for me as she’s getting me out of all kinds of shopping trips, i.e. IKEA, the Mall, you name it. She’s also the BEST big sister to Wolfie.

wolfgang

Taste Tester, Ladies Man

Nearly two years old now, Wolfgang, aka “Wolfie,” has the sweetest disposition and is ALWAYS all smiles. He smiles when you wake him up in the morning, after every nap, every time you glance back at him in the car, and at every single person he sees. Seriously, if he’s not smiling it’s because he’s getting sick. We’ve had some major setbacks with this boy, though. We discovered he has epilepsy at four months old which has been a roller coaster to say the least. But in May of 2018, we suddenly went from seizures all day, everyday, to waking up one morning, and they just stopped... Like, COMPLETELY stopped. And while we don’t have the concrete answers yet as to how they stopped, we will take it! He’s been happily playing catch up ever since, and we have been over the moon watching it! Seriously, you’ve never seen parents get so excited over their kid doing basic things. He enjoys eating us out of house and home (honestly, it’s impressive)... but if there IS one advantage to him eating so much it’s that he’s still too heavy to climb out of his crib at night. He loves to dance and has a strange obsession with cords, magnets, and my record player (this is going to be the death of me)… AND he’s already a real ladies man who makes unflinching eye-contact with every single female he sees while they’re simultaneously swooning over his luscious, blonde, curly locks. He knows he looks good and doesn’t seem to be lacking in the confidence department.

PAD

Emotional Crutch, Eater of Diapers, Dependent Personality Disorder

Hard to imagine our lives without this guy! A friend once commented, after watching Pad for a week, that he found him “strangely comforting” to have around. That’s a great summary. He just wants to be on whichever side of the door you’re on. The one drawback is he’s a sneakster… The one time we went and picked up food from Franklin BBQ (and by picked up I mean waited HOURS in line), we turned our backs for three minutes and he got onto the counter and gobbled up the entirety of our meal. Half of me felt angry but the other half just thought… “Egh! Well, good for you. Best meal you’ll ever eat in your lifetime.”
